(1) CALIFORNIAN COLD SNAP BREAKS 107-YEAR-OLD RECORD

KTVU/AP, 1 December 2004

SAN FRANCISCO -- A blast of cold air sent temperatures plummeting
early Tuesday with San Francisco breaking a 107-year-old mark and
downtown Oakland also setting a new record for cold, according to
the National Weather Service.

The cold wave dropped temperatures to 41 degrees in San Francisco
overnight, to 38 in Oakland, to 27 in Stockton, 30 at the Santa
Barbara airport and 37 degrees in Long Beach. The old records were
42 in San Francisco set in 1897, 40 in Oakland set in 1996 and 27
in Stockton first set in 1954.

Elsewhere, temperatures plunged to the 30s across much of California
and to near-zero in some areas, forcing growers to closely monitor
crops and social workers to scramble to find shelter for the homeless.

(2) RECORD COLD CHILLS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Los Angeles Times, 1 December 2004
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-113004cold_lat,0,3392828.story?coll=la-home-local

A clear, calm November night brought record low temperatures to parts
of Southern California - and frost on lawns in Los Angeles this
morning, weather service officials said today.

The overnight temperature in Palmdale dipped to 19 degrees, breaking
the record of 25 set in 1954, Bruce Rockwell, a meteorologist in Oxnard,
said this morning.

In Long Beach, the 37-degree mark broke a record set in 1975 by 2
degrees. In Woodland Hills, it was 24 degrees; the record had been 25,
set in 1954. And at the airport in Santa Barbara, he said, the 30 degrees
recorded broke by 2 degrees the record set in 1975.

Alpine in San Diego County reported a reading of 31 degrees, breaking a
record of 33 set in 1991.

"We do tend to get cold this time of year," Rockwell said....

(3) COLDEST NOVEMBER ON RECORD IN COLORADO

Grand Junction Sentinel, 1 December 2004
http://www.gjsentinel.com/hp/content/epaper/editions/wednesday/12_1_Record_Cold_Temps.html

November came to a bitter cold close Tuesday as Grand Junction weathered
its coldest November day on record, with the average temperature for the
day hitting just 9½ degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather
Service.

The month was marked by records and exceptions to the norm:

A low temperature of minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit at Walker Field Airport at
6:21 a.m. Tuesday was the coldest November temperature ever recorded in
Grand Junction....

(4) RECORD COLD IN SALT LAKE CITY

Deseret Morning News, 1 December 2004

By Lynn Arave and Amy Joi Bryson

The calendar may say Dec. 1, but the bone-chilling temperatures this week are
more typical of mid-January. And forecasters predict it won't rise above
freezing in the Salt Lake Valley - even in the daytime - until at least Friday.

Nine Utah locations set records for low temperatures Monday, including Salt
Lake City International Airport, which reached only 27 degrees. That broke the
old record of 28 degrees, set in 1975.....

(5) AND FINALLY: RECORD NOVEMBER SNOWS HIT ISRAEL

Israel National News, 28 November 2004
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/news.php3?id=72692

Saturday's snowfall on Mount Hermon and the northern Golan Heights was the
second this month. It is the first time snow has fallen twice in November
since the early 1950s, when Israel started recording weather statistics.
